Yosemite Squirrel

One of the many great things about Yosemite National Park is the abundance of wildlife. While squirrels are not by any means scarce in California, the backdrop behind the squirrels are. I shot this photo at the top of Nevada Fall along the Mist Trail. For those that haven’t done the trail, I highly recommend it. There are many stopping points and a person doesn’t need to complete all nine miles of the trail. With that said, the trail offers incredible views of two waterfalls of Yosemite: Nevada and Vernal waterfalls.
At the top of Nevada fall are many large granite rocks that are suitable to have a picnic and look out across Yosemite Valley. From the granite rocks, Merced River plunges hundreds of feet and you can eat and hear the power of Nevada fall as it flows below. While I was eating this little guy came out to snack. I love the clarity and detail of this picture. This photo is also a telling reminder that as a human, you should not leave any trash behind. A banana is not a natural source of a squirrel’s food and can do more harm in the long run than benefit. If you pack it in, please pack it out.
