Ohia Lehua – Thirsty For Rain

$5.00$100.00

The Ohia Lehua – flower of the Ohia tree plays a significant role in the rebuilding of Hawaii’s rainforest. This species of tree is one of the first plants to colonize the barren lands after lava has flowed the area. The flower also carries with it significance to the Hawaiian culture. Native Hawaiians believed that when the flower was separated from the tree, rain would follow. This tree is commonly found throughout the rainforests of the largest of the Hawaiian Islands.

The print is digitally printed on high quality gloss paper.

I shot this photo on the White Road Hike in Kamuela Hawaii. It’s a spectacular hike if you ever get the chance to do it. What I like about this photo is that the fog is so thick that you can’t see across the valley that has three thousand food lush tropical cliffs and waterfalls. What stands out to me is how the flower sucks the moisture up out of the air to form droplets that eventually fall to the ground around the base of the tree.
