Cuyamaca Peak Winter

$10.00$100.00

One of my favorite things about San Diego is that in terms of climate, there are so many different things to experience. A person can literally be at the beach and a couple hours later be up in the local mountains enjoying snow. This picture was shot on a hike up to Cuyamaca Peak in the San Diego County Mountains. Cuyamaca Peak is the second tallest peak in San Diego and sits at 6,565 feet. The mountains of San Diego are about the only place that a person will really find anything close that resembles four seasons.

I did this hike after a couple of winter storms went through the area. There was six to twelve inches of snow on the higher portions of the peak. While on the hike I came across this decomposing fallen tree with tree fungus along the trunk. Sometimes when I take a photo I’m not sure how I’m going to feel about the end result. What I love about this photo is the contrast of orange/brown of the fungus against the brown and green in the background. The touch of snow gives just enough brightness to what would be an otherwise pretty dark shot.
